- On Friday, North Carolina A&T guard Trent Middleton Jr. made a driving layup, drew a foul, and hit a free throw with 4.5 seconds left to win 71-70 as Hampton's Jalyke Gaines-Wyatt missed a tying floater at the buzzer.
- The HBCU Classic, started five years ago during Black History Month, was staged to highlight historically Black colleges and universities as part of NBA All-Star Weekend.
- Middleton and reserve Will Felton supported the comeback with 15 points and 12 points off the bench on efficient shooting respectively, while Lewis Walker led North Carolina A&T with 18 points and four straight free throws tied the game at 68-all.
- A late defensive burst produced a comeback that erased an eight-point deficit after consecutive steals led to baskets, leaving North Carolina A&T Aggies at 10-14, 3-10 CAA and Hampton at 12-14, 6-7.
- The event mixed sports and culture by featuring the Pack Drumline, Black fraternities and sororities, and Chloe Bailey singing `Lift Every Voice and Sing`.
