No. 1 pick AJ Dybantsa makes NBA debut for Wizards against Cavaliers
The No. 1 pick returned after a sprained ankle and will be limited as Washington manages his NBA debut.
Washington Wizards rookie AJ Dybantsa makes his NBA debut against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2026, starting at Rocket Arena after being upgraded to available.
Dybantsa sat out the team's first four games after suffering a sprained left ankle on Oct. 16 during the preseason finale against the New Orleans Pelicans. Coach Brian Keefe confirmed the rookie will operate under a minutes restriction.
Washington also announced Wednesday that forward Justin Champagnie underwent surgery to repair a right foot fracture sustained during Monday's game against Charlotte. The Wizards enter with a 2-2 record.
Cleveland, currently 2-1, recently secured a 127-125 overtime victory against the Minnesota Timberwolves, with rookie guard Meleek Thomas impressing in his regular-season debut. The Cavs hold a 16-game winning streak against Washington.
Broadcast coverage is available via WTAM 1100-AM, WMMS 100.7-FM, or La Mega Cleveland. The teams face each other twice more during the 2026-27 regular season, with matchups scheduled for December.
