Cavs Erase 15-Point Deficit, Hand Timberwolves First Loss
Donovan Mitchell scored 26 points and hit the go-ahead jumper as Cleveland erased a 15-point deficit and handed Minnesota its first loss.
On Monday, the Cleveland Cavaliers rallied from a 15-point deficit to defeat the previously unbeaten Minnesota Timberwolves 127-125 in overtime at Rocket Arena, with Donovan Mitchell scoring 5 of his 26 points in the extra period.
Minnesota led by 15 points in the first half behind Anthony Edwards, but Cleveland used a 12-0 third-quarter run fueled by eight points from James Harden to erase the deficit and seize a 70-69 lead.
Rookie Meleek Thomas scored 16 points in his NBA debut, while Peyton Watson added 15 points and eight rebounds, also blocking Edwards' potential tying shot in the final seconds to force overtime.
Despite a season-high 47 points from Edwards, the Timberwolves fell after he missed a wide-open 3-pointer with 3.9 seconds remaining, while Rudy Gobert grabbed 19 rebounds but failed to score on eight field goal attempts.
The Cavaliers improved to 2-1 and host Washington on Wednesday, while Minnesota played their initial back-to-back set of the season after beating the Toronto Raptors 117-94 on Sunday.
