Nigeria: Ebola - Nigeria On High Alert As Cases Rise in DRC
The health agency said 7,773 confirmed cases and 3,759 deaths in the DRC have prompted precautionary checks for incoming travelers.
- NCDC Director-General Jide Idris signed an interim public health advisory on September 22 requiring travelers from Ebola-affected regions to complete a Health Declaration Form upon arrival in Nigeria.
- The heightened alert follows worsening Ebola Virus Disease in the Democratic Republic of the Congo , where the Bundibugyo virus has spread to 63 health zones across seven provinces.
- As of 21 September 2026, the DRC recorded 7,773 confirmed cases and 3,759 deaths, while the IOM has supported more than 33 million health screenings across the region.
- The Health Declaration Form collects countries visited in the previous 21 days and travel routes; the NCDC's online system also provides for 21-day post-arrival follow-up by state surveillance teams.
- Nigeria remains on high alert as the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and NCDC continue reviewing measures in line with the evolving epidemiological situation and dynamic risk assessment.
