Nigeria: 26 People Injured in Abuja-Kaduna Train Accident
- On Monday, the Nigerian Railway Corporation said the Asham‑axis occurrence was not a derailment and KA2 ran within its scheduled 07:15–10:01 window, calling at Jere before passengers disembarked at Idu.
- Shortly after departing Jere, the rear locomotive attached at Jere detached, rolled down the downward gradient, and struck the train at about 09:16 hours on the Jere–Asham section near Asham Station.
- Evidence gathering is under way, NSIB said, and investigators have commenced analysis to examine technical, operational and infrastructure factors while coordinating with relevant agencies.
- The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau said it would examine all relevant factors and commended NRC personnel and emergency teams for their response, noting affected passengers included some with injuries.
- Earlier media reports described the event as a derailment, which NRC disputed by defining derailment as wheels leaving the track; the NSIB probe will inform future recommendations for the Abuja–Kaduna rail corridor.
