Residents said 19 people were killed and several others injured when gunmen opened fire on sleeping villagers in an unprovoked nighttime attack.
On Sunday night, gunmen invaded Kawel village in Bokkos LGA, Plateau State, killing 19 residents as they slept in their homes.
This assault followed ignored security alerts regarding gathered Fulani militias and occurred less than five days after Saf Samuel Alaket, District Head of Gwande in Bokkos LGA, was killed.
Armed Fulani militias numbering over 100 stormed the village, shooting residents in their homes, while Bokkos Youth Leader Christopher Luka confirmed the incident and Patience Ibrahim reported losing four family members.
The Plateau State Police Command and Operation Enduring Peace have yet to issue official statements regarding the attack or the status of a missing youth who served as a police officer.
Community members in Bokkos LGA are calling for urgent security intervention to prevent further violence, as fear persists following the recent string of deadly attacks.
