Niger-Europe visa row: Sahel nation limits visa access for nationals of 5 European countries
Niger restricts visa issuance for citizens of Italy, the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and the United Kingdom, escalating tensions with Europe while deepening ties with Russia and other non-Western allies.
Noting difficulties for their citizens in obtaining visas, the Niger authorities moderated their surrender for certain European nationals, accepting that only Niger embassies in Geneva, Ankara and Moscow should be allowed to issue visas.
After noting the difficulties encountered by its citizens in travelling to Europe, Niger decided to restrict the issuance of visas to Europeans. The target measure is France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.
