Nigel Farage Brands Andy Burnham 'a Liar' over Russian Interference in Brexit Claims
Burnham made the claim while warning voters in France and Germany about Moscow-backed efforts to influence European politics.
- On Monday, British Prime Minister Andy Burnham alleged Russian interference in the 2016 Brexit vote, marking the first time a British Prime Minister has openly claimed evidence exists regarding Moscow's involvement.
- A 2020 report by Parliament's Intelligence and Security Committee previously failed to establish whether Russia meddled in the referendum, while former Prime Minister Boris Johnson insisted there was no evidence of such interference.
- During the podcast interview, Burnham provided no specific details or evidence for his claims while warning voters in France and Germany about Moscow-backed efforts to influence their domestic politics.
- Junior Foreign Office Minister Stephen Doughty clarified on Monday that no evidence suggests Russia successfully interfered in the referendum, as Downing Street affirmed the 52%-48% vote result is legitimate.
- Brexit campaigner Nigel Farage rejected the comments, calling Burnham a 'liar' with 'all sorts of bizarre ideas,' while Russia has denied meddling, characterizing Britain as gripped by anti-Russian hysteria.
