NIA Intensifies Probe: Former TMC MLA Under Scrutiny in Bomb Blast Investigation
The agency also searched a party office, relatives’ homes and a son’s restaurant as it probes a blast that killed 1 person and injured 3.
On Thursday, the National Investigation Agency searched the residence of former Trinamool Congress MLA Saokat Molla in Maukhali, South 24 Parganas district, in connection with a pre-election bomb blast in Bhangar.
The investigation stems from a March 19 explosion in Dakshin Bamunia village that killed one person and injured three others, prompting the Union Home Ministry to transfer the case to the NIA in April.
Following the incident, police recovered at least 79 crude bombs, with the NIA subsequently arresting TMC leaders Wahidul Islam and Ahidul Islam Molla for their alleged roles in bomb manufacturing.
NIA officials searched the TMC party office and a cafe owned by Imran, Saokat's son, while questioning his wife and daughter-in-law about his whereabouts; he was absent during the operation.
Minister Tapas Roy endorsed the ongoing probe, emphasizing mandatory cooperation with investigative authorities as the NIA intensifies its regional crackdown on illegal explosive storage and political violence in West Bengal.
