NHS doctor suspended for 15 months over allegedly antisemitic posts
Dr Rahmeh Aladwan faces a 15-month suspension over social media posts deemed antisemitic and supportive of terrorism, after more than 200 complaints triggered a General Medical Council investigation.
- On Wednesday, the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service imposed a 15-month interim suspension on Dr Rahmeh Aladwan, trainee trauma and orthopaedic surgeon, with reviews every six months.
- Following complaints from medical and Jewish groups, the General Medical Council is investigating posts that allegedly justify terrorism, deny sexual violence, and support proscribed groups Hamas and Palestine Action.
- A September interim orders tribunal had earlier declined restrictions, but the GMC re-referred the case citing escalation; Gilsenan called it 'unconscionable' to allow practice, while lawyer Kevin Saunders argued there was 'no information to suggest' immediate patient risk.
- Effective Wednesday, the 15-month interim suspension will be reviewed every six months and does not decide the underlying allegations while the GMC and MPTS may pursue a full fitness-to-practise hearing with sanctions up to removal from the medical register.
- The tribunal heard allegations that the posts 'demonise' Jews and misuse Holocaust imagery, also calling the Royal Free Hospital in London a 'Jewish supremacy cesspit' and doxxing colleagues who raised concerns.
