NHS abortions are 'human rights violations' says US in extraordinary intervention
The US State Department classified NHS-funded abortions as human rights violations, detailing this in its annual report on human rights conditions worldwide.
Over 250,000 abortions were recorded in England and Wales in 2022, with 99% funded by the NHS, according to the Department of Health and Social Care.
Countries receiving American aid must report their abortion figures, which could affect their economic ties and security support with the US.
Tommy Pigott from the State Department commented that new destructive ideologies have allowed human rights violations to occur.
