Next stop, Cayman Islands: Vancouver Island lifter eyes international stage

Lucas, a 47-year-old powerlifter, will compete for Canada at a major regional powerlifting event held in George Town, Cayman Islands, scheduled for late July.
He secured this chance by finishing first in his division at the Canadian Powerlifting Union’s national meet held earlier this year in Moose Jaw.
Lucas competes in the Masters 1 120 kg+ category where total lifts combine squat, bench press, and deadlift, and he posted a 770 kg total in Moose Jaw.
Lucas said, "I really would like to fly to Worlds, but I'll have to see how this one goes," while noting these meets are physically demanding and self-funded.
His success in the Cayman Islands event could earn him a spot at the upcoming IPF World Championships taking place in South Africa this October, which will feature some of the top powerlifters from North America.
