Newcastle signs goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen from 2nd-tier French side Reims
The 20-year-old made 34 Ligue 2 appearances last season and kept 15 clean sheets as Newcastle reshape their goalkeeping department.
On Wednesday, June 10, 2026, Newcastle United completed their first summer signing by landing goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen from Stade de Reims on a long-term contract.
Sporting Director Ross Wilson and Head Coach Eddie Howe pursued Jaouen to reshape the goalkeeping department, a move following Aaron Ramsdale's return to Southampton.
The 20-year-old French Under-21 international made 34 Ligue 2 appearances last season for Reims; media reports estimate the four-year deal at about $33 million.
"I'm really excited to become a Newcastle United player," Jaouen said, praising the passion of the city and the atmosphere at St James' Park.
With Nick Pope potentially leaving if a suitable offer arrives, Newcastle held talks with Ipswich Town regarding a transfer fee while strengthening other squad areas.
The Frenchman Ewen Jaouen, guard of the Reims Stadium, was transferred this Wednesday to Newcastle for 28.5 million euros. The 20-year-old doorman became the most expensive player in League 2 history.
