Vishal Kumar, 23, of Queens, was charged with extortion, larceny over $250 from a person over 60 and conspiracy, Ryan’s office said in a statement. A Middlesex County Grand Jury indicted Kumar on Feb. 26, when he was ordered held in lieu of $500,000 cash bail.

A New York man is accused of posing as a government agent in a scam to defraud a 72-year-old Newton woman out of nearly half a million dollars, the district attorney said Tuesday.

The New York City Police Department on Wednesday released a photo of a man and asked the public for help in locating him. The man is suspected of posing as an employee of the Amazon Fraud Prevention Department in Brooklyn and defrauding two victims of more than $74,000 in cash last month.
