A New York man was charged in connection with a scheme to extort and defraud a Newton woman out of over $480,000, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan’s office said. Vishal Kumar, 23, of Queens, was charged with extortion, larceny over $250 from a person over 60 and conspiracy, Ryan’s office said in a statement. A Middlesex County Grand Jury indicted Kumar on Feb. 26, when he was ordered held in lieu of $500,000 cash bail.
