The New York Department of Prisons will allow a group of six inmates from a prison in upstate New York to watch the total solar eclipse on April 8 as requested, citing freedom to exercise religion, EFE reported Friday, citing Agerpres.
Several New York inmates can watch the eclipse
The New York State Department of Corrections agreed to allow six incarcerated people to watch the eclipse on Monday. Prisoners had previously sued the office for ordering that on April 8 — the day of the eclipse — state penitentiary institutions operate according to a public holiday, leaving inmates to stay in their cells from 2pm to 5pm, when they could be outdoors, this time.
