New UAE pipeline bypassing Hormuz now 50% complete, ADNOC CEO says
On Wednesday, the United Arab Emirates announced its new West-East Pipeline is nearly 50% complete, with ADNOC CEO Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber targeting full operation by 2027 to bypass the blockaded Strait of Hormuz.
Iran has blockaded the waterway since late February, causing the loss of more than 1 billion barrels of oil and nearly 100 million additional barrels lost weekly, triggering the most severe energy supply disruption in history.
"Right now, too much of the world's energy still moves through too few chokepoints," Al Jaber stated, warning that allowing one country to hold global waterways hostage creates a "dangerous precedent."
Energy Secretary Chris Wright noted on Friday that the Strait's global importance will decline as Gulf nations establish alternative routes, though regional energy production remains critical.
Al Jaber warned that oil flows will not fully normalize until the first or second quarter of 2027, while the UAE maintains $85 billion in United States investments reflecting long-term economic cooperation.
