New stablecoin Open USD goes live as Coinbase, Mastercard, Stripe and Visa commit $1 billion to liquidity
- On Wednesday, Open Standard launched OUSD stablecoin across Ethereum, Solana, Base, and Tempo blockchains, with five founding partners—Coinbase, Mastercard, Shopify, Stripe, and Visa—committing more than $1 billion in liquidity.
- Open Standard differentiates its model by distributing equity and rewards to partners based on OUSD supply and usage, rather than concentrating ownership with a single issuer.
- Businesses can mint and burn OUSD at a 1:1 rate against the dollar with no fees. Privy co-founder Henri Stern said "OUSD offers businesses better economics than any other stablecoin."
- Entering a market worth more than $300 billion, OUSD competes with established stablecoins Tether and Circle, while its partner network has grown to more than 200 businesses.
- CEO Zach Abrams expects the founding group to expand to roughly 10 to 12 companies, aiming for OUSD rails to handle "hundreds of trillions of dollars a year" as stablecoins become core infrastructure.
