New Rare 50p Coin Revealed by Royal Mint Worth at Least 30 Times Its Face Value
The 50p coin features a 1926 Grand Prix car and a 2026 Formula 1 car, and the Royal Mint says it is worth at least 30 times face value.
On Monday, the Royal Mint unveiled a new 50p coin at Brooklands in Weybridge, Surrey, marking 100 years of Grand Prix racing in Britain.
Designed in collaboration with London-based agency Interstate, the coin features a 1926 Grand Prix car alongside a 2026 Formula 1 vehicle, symbolising a century of technological progress.
Rebecca Morgan, director at The Royal Mint, called the coin 'a true landmark,' noting it is worth at least 30 times its face value.
The gold version uses recycled gold from old jewellery and coins, with the Royal Mint aiming to use recycled materials for all collectable gold coins by year-end; prices start from £15.
Visitors to The Royal Mint Experience can strike their own version from July 7 until August 2, while Alex Patterson, chief executive of Brooklands Museum, described the 1926 race as a 'defining moment.
