New Rankings Show DC Region Has Deep Bench of Top Hospitals
U.S. News said the update will help patients compare complex care options closer to home, with 505 regional hospitals recognized nationwide.
On Tuesday, U.S. News & World Report released its 2026-2027 Best Hospitals rankings, identifying top-performing medical centers based on clinical excellence and patient outcomes across the country.
This year's study places increased weight on risk-adjusted patient outcome measures, including survival and complication rates, derived from over 800 million patient care records.
Twenty hospitals across nine states earned spots on the Best Hospitals Honor Roll for demonstrating broad clinical excellence, while 505 regional facilities were recognized for superior outcomes.
"I hope that patients find this information useful as they and their care providers are making decisions about where to seek care," said Ben Harder, chief of health analysis and managing editor at U.S. News.
The publication introduced regional specialty rankings in four key areas—cancer, cardiology, heart and vascular surgery, orthopedics, and rehabilitation—to help patients evaluate nearby options for complex care.
