New rail service to link Antwerp and Ghent with Amsterdam and Paris
GoVolta says the service will take about seven hours and tickets start at €19, undercutting Eurostar’s fares.
Starting December 14, public transport company GoVolta will launch a daily train service between Amsterdam Central and Paris-Nord, marking the first international connection for Ghent in years via Antwerp Central and Ghent Sint-Pieters.
The train departs Amsterdam at around 8.00 and arrives in Paris at around 15.00, completing the seven-hour journey via The Hague, Rotterdam, and Roosendaal while avoiding the overloaded Brussels line.
While Eurostar typically charges from €35 for the same route, GoVolta tickets start at €19, offering a budget alternative despite Eurostar's faster 3 hours 20 minutes travel time.
Founded last year, GoVolta already operates a service six times a week between Amsterdam and Berlin, with demand strong enough to increase frequency this June.
To "facilitate further growth," the company has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise €1.5 million in bonds and uses refurbished I10 carriages previously operated by NMBS.
A new train connection to Paris is coming. Starting at the end of this year, Breda-based GoVolta will operate a line running daily from Amsterdam, via Brabant, to the French capital. Tickets are available from 19 euros.
