New MasterChef series starring sacked hosts will be aired

UNITED KINGDOM, JUL 23 – The BBC will broadcast the pre-recorded MasterChef series despite sacking hosts over misconduct; more than 50 allegations against Gregg Wallace were upheld, the broadcaster said.

  • A BBC spokesperson said it would broadcast the amateur series on BBC One and BBC iPlayer from 6 August, noting it was recorded last year before allegations and features sacked presenters.
  • Amid findings of misconduct, the BBC dropped Gregg Wallace and John Torode after a Lewis Silkin review upheld allegations against both presenters.
  • Deeply sorry for any distress caused, Wallace said, adding he never set out to harm, while Torode stated he had no recollection of the incident and was shocked and saddened, and the edit will focus on contestants.
  • Honouring the contestants and preserving the findings’ gravity, the BBC stated that airing the series does not diminish the seriousness of the upheld findings.
  • At this stage, BBC said it has not decided on the celebrity series and Christmas special and will confirm plans later in the year, and Tim Davie insisted MasterChef will continue beyond 2028.
