The first global regulations for fully autonomous vehicles were adopted Wednesday, a UN agency said, establishing uniform international safety requirements that could pave the way for larger-scale rollouts of self-driving cars.

[Geneva, Kyodo] The World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations (WP29), a UN-affiliated forum for discussing safety and environmental standards for automobiles, announced on the 24th that it has adopted the first comprehensive international regulations on autonomous driving. The aim is to prevent a proliferation of different regulations from country to country and to promote mass production and widespread adoption.
