The EU and US have prepared measures that could dramatically weaken Russia’s energy weapon and undermine Putin’s war machine. The question now is whether they have the political leadership to proceed, writes Aura Sabadus.


The gas giant Gazprom, once one of the Kremlin’s main levers of influence in the world, faces a deep crisis after the European Union (EU) stopped demanding Russian gas in retaliation for the start of the war in Ukraine in February 2022. Russian President Vladimir Putin’s right eye, during the last quarter of a century, recently began a deep restructuring process, as the Chinese alternative has not yet met the expectations created.
