New Club Join City in Search for Next Boss as Blackburn Confirm O'Neill Call
On Tuesday, Michael O'Neill confirmed he will remain Northern Ireland's senior men's manager, rejecting the opportunity to become Blackburn Rovers' permanent Head Coach.
O'Neill joined Blackburn Rovers in February to manage the club during its relegation battle, collecting 20 points in 14 games to steer the team toward Championship safety.
Blackburn Rovers Chief Operating Officer Suhail Shaikh noted the club is "naturally disappointed," while O'Neill stated his focus "must remain with Northern Ireland and the journey towards the European Championship campaign ahead."
The search for a new Head Coach will now begin at Blackburn Rovers, marking their fifth appointment since 2022, with updates to be communicated in due course.
O'Neill will manage Northern Ireland in friendlies next month against Guinea and France, then prepare for the UEFA Nations League campaign this autumn and UEFA Euro 2028 qualifying.
