New Brunswick electing mayors, councillors and other local representatives today
Residents across New Brunswick are electing local representatives today in 77 municipalities, 12 rural districts, and 11 district education council seats for the first time since local government reforms in 2023.
Chief electoral officer Kim Poffenroth says polls remain open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with Elections New Brunswick offering accessibility options including curbside voting and assistive devices for voters needing support.
While many cities feature competitive contests, Miramichi's ballot includes 24 candidates for eight at-large positions and five mayoral seats, while more than 150 local seats will be filled by acclamation or remain without any candidate.
Results should arrive within 10 minutes after polls close at 8 p.m., while a byelection on June 22 will fill vacancies in Grand Lake's Ward 2 and Ward 3 in Saint Andrews after candidates died during campaigns.
Elections New Brunswick provides eligibility details and polling station locations on its website or via 1-888-858-8683 for 18-year-old Canadian citizens living in the province for at least 40 days before election day.
