New Bedford-Fairhaven bridge closed due to 'mechanical failure'

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — The New Bedford-Fairhaven swing bridge, which carries Route 6 over the Acushnet River, is expected to be closed for the next several hours. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) said the bridge had to be closed because of a "mechanical failure."
