The sequel will continue the Mitchell family’s fight against a robot uprising with a new creative partnership between Sony Pictures Animation and Netflix, production starting in early 2026.
- Sony Pictures Animation is making a sequel to The Mitchells vs. the Machines with Guillermo Martinez and JP Sans directing, and Netflix distributing under a licensing deal starting early 2026.
- The original's awards haul and Netflix release set the stage for a follow-up, as The Mitchells vs. the Machines won eight Annie Awards and was picked up for reportedly more than $100 million.
- Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are returning as producers through Lord Miller, with Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin co-writing and Kurt Albrecht, Michael Rianda, and Aditya Sood producing.
- Studios plan a 'more collaborative creative partnership' for Mitchells 2 after Sony Pictures Animation's KPop Demon Hunters achieved major streaming success at Netflix.
- So far there's no word on who among the original cast will return, though the first film featured Abbi Jacobson, Danny McBride and Maya Rudolph, and the Mitchells and the machines are readying for a rematch.
