EXCLUSIVE: Ayushmann Khurrana-Sara Ali Khan Starrer Udta Teer DENIED Release Permission in Nepal
The ministry cited Nepal film law provisions and did not specify scenes, while the action-comedy remains set for release in Indian cinemas on Oct. 23.
On Friday, October 16, the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology of Nepal denied public screening permission for Udta Teer, informing National Cine Group Nepal Pvt Ltd of the decision through Section Officer Bishal Bhandari.
Officials cited Section 8 of the Motion Picture Act, which permits prohibiting content harmful to national interests; reports suggest the film's portrayal of India-Pakistan tensions prompted the decision, though the official notice did not specify scenes.
Produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, Guneet Monga Kapoor, and Achin Jain, the action-comedy stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan and follows a Pakistani spy who infiltrates India, loses his memory, and becomes an Indian officer.
Despite the denial in Nepal, the film remains scheduled to release in Indian cinemas on Friday, October 23, proceeding with its planned distribution across the border.
Nepal's cinema laws permit authorities to refuse certification for films deemed harmful to national security or international relations, reflecting broader distribution challenges recently faced by various films in Middle Eastern markets.
Udta Teer is actually a spy film made under the banner of Karan Johar's production house, which stars stars like Ayushmann Khurrana, Sara Ali Khan, Gulshan Grover, Ram Kapoor.
