More than 23,000 dogs stolen in UK in 10 years, figures show

An estimated 1,808 dogs were stolen in the UK last year, with French bulldogs being the most likely breed to be taken, according to police figures.
Rottweiler thefts increased by 180% year-on-year, while thefts of XL bullies dropped by 49% after the breed ban, as reported by Direct Line Pet Insurance.
Only 19% of stolen dogs were returned to their owners last year, which is one of the lowest recovery rates in the last decade, according to Direct Line Pet Insurance data.
Adam Burgin of Direct Line Pet Insurance stated that the Pet Abduction Act is expected to help reduce dog theft and encourage a change in criminal behavior.
