NDLEA arrests 101-year-old woman retailing cannabis, recover cocaine concealed inside fufu
NDLEA said the seizures included 1,490.5kg of Thai Loud, 42.622kg of narcotics and multiple arrests in nationwide operations.
- On August 15, NDLEA operatives arrested 101-year-old Esther Ogunmabo in Ilisan, Ogun State, for allegedly selling 90 grammes of skunk packaged in small sachets.
- Ogunmabo told operatives that she turned to selling cannabis after a fire destroyed her provisions shop, with her daughter in Lagos supplying the substance every four days.
- Simultaneously, NDLEA intercepted N4.4 billion worth of Thai Loud at Apapa and Lekki ports on Friday, representing the first recorded interception of illicit drugs shipped from Thailand through the maritime corridor.
- NDLEA Chairman Buba Marwa directed that Ogunmabo be granted bail and placed on counselling due to her advanced age; her daughter was arrested for supplying the cannabis.
- This arrest reflects a pattern of elderly Nigerians involved in drug trafficking; in June, the agency arrested two men aged 84 and 75 in Abia State for allegedly supplying substances to students. NDLEA continues nationwide War Against Drug Abuse campaigns.
