NDC Moves To Inaugurate Campaign Council, Gives Obi, Kwankwaso Nomination Powers

- On Tuesday, the Nigeria Democratic Congress announced that presidential candidate Peter Obi and running mate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso have authority to nominate key officials for the Presidential Campaign Council, including the Director-General, spokespersons, and finance officials.
- The announcement follows a face-off 72 hours ago between the NDC and the OK Movement, an independent support group that constituted a 59-member council last Thursday. The party dissociated from the group on Saturday.
- Concurrently, the NDC directed state and Local Government Area Chairmen to compile harmonized lists of party agents for National Assembly and state elections. These lists must be submitted for ratification within two weeks.
- Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal joined the NDC on Tuesday, meeting with National Leader Senator Seriake Dickson. Lawal will oversee party activities and campaigns in the North Eastern part of Nigeria.
- The party plans to inaugurate the full Presidential Campaign Council soon, having delayed the initial early September schedule due to Obi's travel commitments. The NDC remains focused on finalizing funding arrangements ahead of the 2027 elections.
