NDC Moves To Inaugurate Campaign Council, Gives Obi, Kwankwaso Nomination Powers
The party said the nominees will help oversee campaign leadership, funding and agent deployment as it seeks to avoid internal disputes before 2027.
- On Tuesday, the Nigeria Democratic Congress announced that presidential candidate Peter Obi and running mate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso have authority to nominate key officials for the Presidential Campaign Council, including Director-General, spokespersons, and finance directors.
- The announcement follows a face-off 72 hours earlier between the NDC and the OK Movement, which constituted a 59-member council last Thursday to mobilize support for Obi and Kwankwaso.
- Concurrently, the NDC directed state and Local Government Area Chairmen to compile harmonized lists of party agents for National Assembly and state elections. These lists must be submitted within two weeks for ratification.
- Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal joined the NDC on Tuesday after meeting with National Leader Senator Seriake Dickson. Lawal will oversee party campaigns in the North Eastern part of Nigeria.
- The party plans to inaugurate the full council soon after finalizing funding arrangements, having delayed the initial early September schedule due to Obi's travel commitments. The inauguration precedes the 2027 general elections.
