NC State Baseball Coach Elliott Avent Retiring After 30 Years
Avent leaves as the program’s winningest coach with 1,103 victories and three College World Series trips.
On Thursday, longtime NC State baseball coach Elliott Avent announced his retirement after 30 seasons leading the Wolfpack program, stepping away as the winningest coach in school history.
Before taking over in Raleigh in 1997, Avent spent eight seasons at New Mexico State University, compiling 1,327 career wins over his 38-year coaching tenure.
Developing talent remained a hallmark of his tenure, with 137 players selected in the MLB draft, including 58 since 2015, and 104 mentored All-ACC players.
The Wolfpack will conclude the 2026 season under his leadership, awaiting an NCAA Tournament at-large bid when the field is announced Monday.
Avent characterized his three decades at the helm as his "dream job," while Chancellor Kevin Howell praised his "decades of commitment" to mentoring student-athletes.
