Nazi-obsessed Teenager Who Tried To Behead Kurdish Barber With An Axe Is Jailed For More Than 15 Years
The judge said Burns was driven by neo-Nazi extremism and imposed a four-year licence period after the prison term.
- On Friday, a judge sentenced 19-year-old neo-Nazi Alina Burns to 15-and-a-half years in custody for attempting to behead Kurdish barber Mohammed Mahmoodi, 27, with an axe in Bedminster, Bristol, on August 2, 2025.
- Prosecutors revealed Burns was driven by extreme right-wing ideology and contacted far-right groups including the Patriotic Alternative, having previously messaged a dating app user to "kill all Jews and Muslims" in Britain.
- Before the attack, Burns searched online for how to use an axe and told a mental health assessor that Mahmoodi was involved in "money laundering," later pleading guilty to attempted murder at Bristol Crown Court.
- Sentencing Burns as a "dangerous offender," Mrs Justice Lambert imposed an additional four-year license period as Mahmoodi stated the scar on his neck is a "daily reminder that I was nearly killed."
- Defense counsel Andrew Langdon noted that despite her parents being teachers, Burns stopped attending full-time education at 14; her life became a "spiralling descent and isolation" over the last four years despite living with her family.
