For decades Hubert Weinzierl shaped German environmental policy – in Bavaria he helped the federal government to influence nature conservation. Now he has died.

Hubert Weinzierl has significantly further developed the BUND nature conservation in Bavaria. "With many volunteers Hubert Weinzierl has made a strong, independent and democratic association out of state-based, unpolitical BUND nature conservation. Without his work, Bavaria's nature would be poorer and our livelihoods even more threatened," said Richard Mergner, BN country chairman, Weinzierl's work.
