Nandigram, Rejinagar bypolls: Final field set for multi-cornered contests
Saturday marked an eventful last day of withdrawal of nominations which witnessed the flip-flop of Banerjee's Rejinagar candidate over withdrawal from poll race, the arrest of an Independent candidate in the same seat and the judicial remand of the Congress nominee in Nandigram, effectively throwing him out of the campaign phase of the elections.
The two assembly by-elections in West Bengal on October 6th have ended the electoral challenge for the Mamata Banerjee-led camp. First, Trinamool Congress-backed candidate Sanchita Pradhan Dey withdrew her nomination in Nandigram, and then candidate Rabiul Alam Chowdhury in Rejinagar also withdrew.
