Nancy Pelosi Criticizes Mamdani and El-Sayed Over Their Positions on Israel
- On Thursday, Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., criticized New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed over their views on Israel, calling their positions "wrong."
- The exchange occurs amid ongoing debates within the Democratic Party regarding Israel, particularly following the October 7, 2023, Hamas attacks and the subsequent war in Gaza.
- El-Sayed has faced scrutiny for describing Israel's war in Gaza as "genocide" and characterizing military actions as "bloodthirsty," while Mamdani has questioned support for states privileging one religion over others.
- Pelosi responded that these positions are "more than concerning" and do not reflect the views of Democrats in Congress, stating that members would disassociate themselves from such rhetoric.
- Running against Republican Mike Rogers for a Senate seat in a state Trump carried in 2024, El-Sayed has rejected claims that criticism of Israel is antisemitic, citing a commitment to Jewish safety.
