Revolut to Hand over Details of 300 'Dodgy Box' Users as Sky Plans Legal Action
The High Court ordered Revolut to disclose details of 304 IPTV subscribers and 10 resellers to Sky for legal action against copyright infringement.
- On Wednesday, High Court Judge Brian Cregan ordered Revolut Bank UAB to disclose details of 304 subscribers and 10 resellers to Sky, which sought the information to tackle illegal streaming of its content.
- Sky's legal action follows an investigation into David Dunbar, revealed last year as the provider of the copyright-infringing "IPTV is Easy" streaming service, who previously received a €30,000 fine for contempt of court.
- Statements from Dunbar's closed Revolut account revealed he received payments of €118,992 from resellers and €72,414 from end users over roughly three and a half years.
- Barrister Theo Donnelly, for Sky, told the court the information will be used to take legal actions against resellers and some end users, with Revolut providing data on an encrypted spreadsheet within 28 days.
- Investigator Damien Gilmore said Sky is anxious to "take decisive action against these five resellers before the Premier League season ends," as infringement impacts stakeholders including Premier Sports and LOITV.
