ODISHA, INDIA, AUG 9 – Shadab Pathan will compete in the 5000m race at India's first World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze event featuring 200 athletes from 19 countries, offering World Championships qualification.
- The Bronze Level Continental Tour event organized by World Athletics in 2025 was held on Sunday, August 10, at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, featuring leading Indian and international athletes competing.
- The event occurred as part of the annual Continental Tour, established in 2020, aiming to provide ranking points for World Championships qualification with a deadline of August 24.
- Athletes like Annu Rani, Murali Sreeshankar, Sachin Yadav, and Abdulla Aboobacker sought to meet qualification standards, while over 90 Indians and participants from 16 countries competed in 17 medal events.
- Annu Rani recently threw 62.59m in Poland, Sachin’s season best is 85.16m, and Sreeshankar has an 8.05m mark aiming to surpass 8.27m, while Abdulla stood 32nd in the World Championships race.
- The successful hosting at Kalinga Stadium is expected to enhance India's chances of hosting higher-level events, as stated by World Athletics Vice-president Adille Sumariwalla.
