North Korea’s market grain prices have recently surged to all-time highs after remaining relatively stable since December, increasing the financial burden on ordinary North Koreans. In North Korea, food prices have risen dramatically over the past 12 months. A kilogram of rice costs 9,000 won (about PLN 39), and corn - 4,000 won (over PLN 17). This is an increase of 80% and 33%, respectively, compared to March 2024. The average salary in Kim Jong-un's country is enough to buy just over a kilogram of grain. Prices and wages in this Asian country are set from above by the regime.
