Murder arrest after man's body found following summer solstice event at prehistoric stone circle
Investigators are seeking witnesses and footage from the summer solstice gathering as a 41-year-old man remains in custody.
On Monday, June 22, Derbyshire Police launched a murder investigation after a 26-year-old man's body was discovered at the Nine Ladies Stone Circle in Stanton Lees at 1:38 p.m.
The 4,000-year-old Bronze Age monument served as a focal point for summer solstice celebrations held over the weekend, traditionally believed to depict nine ladies turned to stone.
Detective Inspector Tony Owen from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit urgently appealed for anyone present over the weekend to come forward, particularly seeking dashcam footage from the area.
While the 26-year-old victim remains unidentified, Derbyshire Constabulary is supporting his family with specialist officers and requesting information through the Major Incident Public Portal using reference 26*364216.
The Derby Mountain Rescue Team assisted emergency services at the scene, with police emphasizing that any detail from weekend attendees, however brief, could prove critical to the murder investigation.
