Incumbent Tom Dyas Holds Lead in Kelowna Mayoral Race
Polls close as Tom Dyas, Ron Cannan and Andrew Uitvlugt compete for mayor while 37 candidates vie for eight council seats.
On Saturday night, Oct. 17, incumbent Mayor Tom Dyas secured a second term in Kelowna, defeating Ron Cannan by nearly 1,000 votes while Andrew Mark Uitvlugt received 556 ballots in the closely contested race.
Municipal polls closed Saturday with 38,489 residents casting ballots, representing 29.86% turnout from an estimated 128,885 eligible voters determining leadership for the next four years.
Voters selected a mix of incumbents and fresh faces for council, with Gord Lovegrove leading the field at 15,462 votes, while longtime councillor Maxine DeHart missed the cut by 305 votes.
Reflecting on his 2022-2026 term, Dyas pointed to three consecutive years of declining crime rates and more than $150 million in economic impact, promising to prioritize detox capacity and the Clement Avenue extension at City Hall.
The mayor told supporters that "tomorrow there are no sides," as he plans to begin work on Monday morning to address housing and infrastructure priorities across the city.
