A student of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay was duped of Rs 7.29 lakh ($8,633) by fraudsters, who issued a fake ‘digital arrest’ notice and demanded he pay the money. The cybercriminals posed as officials from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the police said on Tuesday (Nov 26).
A case has come to light in Mumbai where a 77-year-old woman was duped of Rs 3.8 crores through digital arrest several times in a month. On the complaint of the woman, the police have registered a case and started investigation.
