Mumbai crane collapse: At least 10 injured as large crane topples onto houses in Kurla
On Friday, August 21, 2026, a large crane collapsed onto houses in Kurla East, Mumbai, injuring ten people including a three-month-old baby in the Qureshi Nagar area.
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation officials were preparing for an "eviction and demolition operation" at Buntara Bhavan in Indira Nagar when a hydraulic crane being mounted to lift a Poclain machine toppled onto nearby houses.
Emergency responders transported the injured to Sion Hospital and Bhabha Hospital; hospital authorities confirmed all ten victims remain in stable condition despite the severity of impact.
Structural damage from the collapse included severed overhead railway wires, crushed parked vehicles, and damaged nearby houses, halting goods train movement on the single-line Kurla-Trombay route.
This incident follows a similar crane collapse one month ago at JP North Society in Mira Road, Mumbai, where the accident claimed one life, raising construction safety concerns.
