Charter Plane Carrying 8 Crashes Near Remote Radar Site in Western Alaska, NTSB Says
On Thursday, a Security Aviation aircraft carrying eight people crashed near the Cape Newenham Long Range Radar Site in Southwest Alaska, authorities confirmed.
The Cessna 441 departed from Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport and crashed early Thursday afternoon on approach to Cape Newenham after air traffic controllers received an alert.
National Transportation Safety Board Alaska region chief Clint Johnson confirmed two pilots and six passengers were aboard; the Federal Aviation Administration and NTSB launched an investigation.
Following a report of an "aircraft incident," the Alaska Rescue Coordination Center launched a search and rescue mission, though no survivors were indicated as of Thursday afternoon.
Located along the Bering Sea, the crash site houses a long-range radar installation and is being monitored by Alaska State Troopers spokesman Austin McDaniel.
