Multiple Wildfires Burning Near Tulameen
BC Wildfire Service and local crews are monitoring six fires, with the largest near Tulameen estimated at 10 hectares.
- On Saturday, August 22, 2026, a lightning-sparked wildfire ignited in Kelowna's Black Mountain neighbourhood. The BC Wildfire Service currently holds the blaze at under one hectare in size and does not expect it to grow.
- South of Kamloops, a lightning-caused wildfire ignited Saturday afternoon near Jacko Lake. The BC Wildfire Service held this blaze at 44 hectares after it rapidly spread through grassy fuels in the late afternoon.
- Nineteen firefighters, supported by air tankers and three helicopters, worked to contain the Jacko Lake fire, fire information officer Shae Stearns said. Stearns noted that grass fuels can be "quite flashy" and generate significant smoke.
- Northwest of Kamloops, the Pear Lake fire has grown to nearly 1650 square kilometres, triggering evacuation orders for more than 80 properties in the Thompson-Nicola Regional District including Cache Creek and Bonaparte Plateau.
- In Electoral Area H near Tulameen, crews responded to several lightning-sparked wildfires on Saturday. The BC Wildfire Service reported four fires at 0.3 hectares, while the largest in that area remains listed at 10 hectares.
