Multiple people seriously injured at B.C. waterpark
BC Emergency Health Services dispatched ambulances and two air ambulances after an electrical incident left 12 people hospitalized, officials said.
- On Monday, twelve people, mostly students, were hospitalized following an apparent electrical incident at Cultus Lake Waterpark in British Columbia's Fraser Valley.
- BC Hydro identified an electrical issue originating on the customer's side rather than utility infrastructure, while WorkSafeBC launched an investigation into the incident.
- Emergency responders transported two victims by air ambulance and ten by ground, while Chilliwack RCMP confirmed all injured parties are in stable condition with "serious but non-life-threatening injuries."
- Ken Hoff, assistant director of communications for the Coquitlam School District, said the incident occurred during a field trip for Grade 6 and 7 students from Minnekhada Middle School.
- BC Hydro stated, "The safety of the public is our top priority," as it continues cooperating with the waterpark operator to support the ongoing investigation.
