Funeral of 18-Year-Old Killed in M9 Crash Takes Place in Kildare
Family and mourners will gather for the fourth teenager killed in the M9 crash, as gardaí maintain a heavy presence outside the church.
On Monday, mourners gathered at The Holy Family Church in Askea, Carlow, for the funeral of 18-year-old Jeremy O'Brien, the fourth of five teenagers killed in the M9 crash.
Five teenagers died on Sunday, August 16, when the BMW they occupied drove the wrong way on the M9 near Moone, Co Kildare, colliding head-on with a vehicle carrying a family.
Garda maintained a visible presence in Carlow with checkpoints and the Public Order Unit, responding to public outcry over the crash circumstances and concerns regarding potential disorder.
Officiating at the service, Fr. Thomas Little told mourners, "We pray for all those who were involved in the accident," while urging road users to remain careful on the road.
The final funeral for 17-year-old Jack Kennedy will take place on Tuesday at St Michael's Parish Church in Athy, as injured family members continue recovery in hospital.
