Mountain biker reported missing near Trillium Lake on Mount Hood
MOUNT HOOD NATIONAL FOREST, OREGON, JUL 12 – Approximately 70 searchers are deployed using drones, ATVs, and K9 units in challenging terrain to locate experienced mountain biker Ralph Sawyer after he was reported overdue.
- On Friday night, the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office was alerted that Ralph Sawyer was reported missing near Trillium Lake on Mount Hood.
- Known for frequent trips, Sawyer, familiar with the terrain, left around 10 a.m. for a mountain biking trip near Mount Hood.
- At 12:15 a.m. Saturday, searchers found the blue Kia Soul with Sawyer's cell phone inside, covering East Still Creek Road to Veda Lake, Kinzel Lake, and USFS roads, `We've been trying to use everything at our disposal` said McCall.
- In response, the search team grew from 40 to about 70 members, while McCall said, `'Whether he's still on the bike or has the bike with him is unknown at this point.'
- On Monday, Clackamas County Search and Rescue, Pacific Northwest Search and Rescue, and Portland Mountain Rescue continue efforts and urge the public to contact the tip line.
