Most Highland Lakes reopen after severe flooding, but officials urge caution

Most of the waterways along the Highland Lakes chain are now open, but officials with the LCRA are advising caution if you are hitting the water this weekend.

“Substantial” inflows to the Highland Lakes have caused rising and swift-moving currents in the wake of Independence Day flash flooding and dam operations. The two reservoirs – lakes Buchanan and Travis – rose several feet in a short period of time, according to the Lower Colorado River Authority.
